Year 3 visits Mankhool Library

Year 3 visits Mankhool Library as part of the Energy and Buildings course.

Year3 students in 2019, visited Karama as part of their site visit included in the curriculum. Students were required to understand the complexities of the city and to intervene at architectural and urban scales to address the challenge of the city and to envision a reinvigorated urban realm with a well resolved architectural proposal. This site trip helped students in the deep understanding of how cities work, and to broaden knowledge on urban and social context of Karama which is set between old and new Dubai. The site was close to the ADCB metro station which is one of the most common mode of transportation opted to reach the site. The complex urban conditions of the site helped students develop urban and architectural design proposals that vary in its scales and design brief. Students were asked to identify the different scales of zones as in ‘Bur Dubai,  Al Fahidi and the smaller scale. Key destinations like the Union Coop and Masjid Al Ghazali were identified within the study area to examine the extent of their influence.
