Architectural Design Exhibition - 2023

BA (Hons) Architecture course is a four-year degree programme which is the first Architecture programme in Dubai to be designated as a RIBA candidate course by the Royal Institute of British Architects for RIBA Part One. We aim to complete this process in 2020 subject to our final validation by the RIBA. The BA (Hons) Architecture programme provides a thorough grounding in the subject of Architecture. Design as the primary focus covers both Theory and Practice and is underpinned by History and Theories of Architecture, Technology, Environmental Studies, and Professional Practice. Students will work across technical and humanities disciplines, testing the knowledge and skills from these courses through a series of core Design Projects taught in a studio environment (approx. 50% of courses). The curriculum has been designed with reference to the RIBA criteria, providing students with a well-rounded and internationally respected curriculum.

The focus of the architecture programme is teaching architectural design through studio-based projects which encourages students to address real issues and investigate architecture through a range of perspectives with a particular emphasis on the local Dubai context. The BA programme aims to provide students with the key, design, analytical, theoretical and practical skills and knowledge required to attain the RIBA Part 1 level. The design studio is a place where students can integrate and apply the knowledge they have learned in taught courses. Design studio is complemented by formal lectures, workshops, site visits, field trips and many other activities that will support your learning. After graduation, students are equipped to work in architectural offices as an intern or assistant level and follow appropriate work experience to apply for an RIBA Part 2-level postgraduate course at international universities.

The B.A Architecture(Hons.) programme at the Heriot-Watt University Dubai Campus was launched in 2015. Since then, the programme has rapidly grown to a community of more than 100 students, creating a unique niche within the vibrant design community of Dubai and the UAE. Strategically placed within the School of Energy, Geoscience, Infrastructure and Society (EGIS), the programme draws expertise from multiple disciplines associated with the built environment.  The programme is the 6th Discipline within EGIS School, known as D6-Arch. It aspires to create architectural professionals who are creative thinkers, contextually driven, technologically current and industry-linked. We welcome you to be part of our celebration and milestones captured through this website. The Architecture program is RIBA part 1 accredited to maintain a high architectural education quality. Our students are eligible for RIBA Membership.
